ಅನಿವಾಸಿ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಸಾಧಕ : ಮೈಕಲ್ ಡಿ’ಸೊಜಾ, ಪುತ್ತೂರು – ಅಬುದಾಬಿ

ಮೂಲತಃ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಪುತ್ತೂರಿನ ಮೈಕಲ್ ಡಿಸೊಜಾ, ತಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆಯಿಂದ ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿತರಾಗಿ, ಪೂತ್ತೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸೋಜಾ ಮೆಟಲ್ ಮಾರ್ಟ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಿಂದ ಉದ್ಯಮ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿ, ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸೋಜಾ ಇಲೆಕ್ಟ್ರೋನಿಕ್ಸ್ ಎಂಬ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗೆ ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ದುಬಾಯ್‍ಗೆ ಪ್ರಯಾಣ ಬೆಳೆಸಿ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಅಬುದಾಬಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉದ್ಯಮಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಎಚ್.ಎ.ಎಸ್ ಹಾಸ್ಪಿಟಾಲಿಟಿ ಎಂಬ ಉದ್ಯಮ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿ ದುಬಾಯಾದ್ಯಂತ ಡ್ಯೂನ್ಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಐವರಿ ಗ್ರಾಂಡ್ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಹೋಟೆಲ್ ಅಪಾರ್ಟ್‍ಮೆಂಟ್‍ಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಮಂದಿಗೆ ಜೀವನೋಪಾಯ ದೊರೆಯುತಿದ್ದು, ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಧರ್ಮಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿ.ಒ.ಡಿ.ಪಿ. ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ 25 ಕೋಟಿ ರುಪಾಯಿಯ ಎಡುಕೇರ್ ವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಧಿಯನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, 2013 ರಿಂದ ಈ ತನಕ ಸುಮಾರು 3500 ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಈ ಯೋಜನೆಯ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಸಮಾಜದ ಅಶಕ್ತ ವರ್ಗದವರಿಗೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಹಸ್ತ ನೀಡುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ 10 ಕೋಟಿ ರುಪಾಯಿ ನಿಧಿ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿ ಸ್ವ – ಸಹಾಯ ಗುಂಪುಗಳಿಗೆ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಸುಮಾರು 10,000 ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳು ಈ ಯೋಜನೆಯ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡಿವೆ. ಯುವಜನತೆ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಾತ್ಮಕ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆ ಬರೆದು ಐಎಎಸ್, ಐಪಿಎಸ್ ಮತ್ತಿತರ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳಾಗಬೇಕೆಂಬ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸಂತ ಅಲೋಶಿಯಸ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿವಿಲ್ ಸರ್ವಿಸ್ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ, ಕಲೆಗೆ ಸದಾ ಸದಾ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ ನೀಡುವ ಶ್ರೀಯುತರು, ಬಡಜನರ ವಸತಿಗೆ. ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳಿಗೆ, ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸಾ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಮೇಲ್ದರ್ಜೆಗೇರಿಸಲು – ನೆರವಿನ ಹಸ್ತ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾ ಬಂದಿದ್ದು, ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಮತ್ತು ಉಡುಪಿ ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಾಂತ್ರ್ಯಗಳ ಧರ್ಮಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳಿಗೆ ಬೃಹತ್ ಮೊತ್ತದ ದೇಣಿಗೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತಾ ಬಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸ್ವ ಉದ್ಯಮ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲು ಬಯಸುವ ಸಮಾಜ ಭಾಂದವರಿಗೂ ಶ್ರಿಯುತರು ಬಂಡವಾಳ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಬಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಕುಟುಂಬ ಸಮೇತ ಅಬುದಾಬಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

NRI of the year: Michael D’ Souza, Puttur – Abudhabi

Born to an entrepreneurial family in Puttur Michael D Souza started his journey through Souza Metal Mart in Puttur. He expanded his base to Mangalore with Souza Electronics finally shifting to Dubai. Presently he is in the hotel apartments business under the brand name Dunes and Ivory Grand in Dubai. His Flagship Company HAS Hospitality is providing employment and livelihood to many families.  Through the EDUCARE programme under the auspices of CODP, Dioceses of Mangalore he is helping the higher education of the students. He has established a fund of Rs. 25 crores exclusively for this purpose. So far 3500 students benefited from this programme.  He has also established a separate fund of Rs. 10 crores which is helping marginalized sections of society with self-help groups and so far 10,000 families benefited from this programme.

To encourage youth to take up civil service as a career he has initiated setting up Civil Service Academy at St Aloysius College Mangalore where students are trained for competitive and civil service exams. He is referred to as a cheerful donor among the Mangaloreans.  Apart from donating to the housing and medical needs of individuals, he has helped to upgrade healthcare facilities in existing hospitals, and special schools and donated generously to the churches of Mangalore and Udupi dioceses. He is also extending financial support to self-employment projects and supporting Konkani literature and cultural activities in India and Dubai.  Presently he is living in Abudhabi with his family.
