ವೃತ್ತಿಪರ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಸಾಧಕಿ : ಸಿ| ಡಾ| ಗ್ಲ್ಯಾಡಿಸ್ ಮಿನೇಜಸ್, ಬೆಳ್ಮಣ್

ವೃತ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ತ್ರೀ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಸೂತಿ ತಜ್ಞೆಯಾಗಿರುವ, ಮೂಲತಃ ಕಾರ್ಕಳ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಬೆಳ್ಮಣ್‍ನ ಸಿ| ಡಾ| ಗ್ಲ್ಯಾಡಿಸ್ ಮಿನೇಜಸ್ ಇವರಿಗೆ ಸತತ ಮೂರು ದಶಕಗಳ ಕಾಲ ತೀರಾ ಹಿಂದುಳಿದ ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ ಕೀರ್ತಿ ಸಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಿತ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಮಹಾವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯ ಸೈಂಟ್ ಜೋನ್ಸ್ ಮೆಡಿಕಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಮತ್ತು ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎಮ್.ಬಿ.ಬಿ.ಎಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಡಿ.ಜಿ.ಒ ಪದವಿ ಪೂರೈಸಿದ ಸಿ| ಡಾ| ಗ್ಲ್ಯಾಡಿಸ್ ಆಂದ್ರಪ್ರದೇಶದ ವಿಜಯಮೇರಿ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಿಂದ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿ, ಉತ್ತರ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಮುಂಡಗೋಡ್, ಭಟ್ಕಳ, ರಾಮನಗರ – ಹೀಗೆ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ತೀರಾ ಹಿಂದುಳಿದ ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಸಮಾಜದ ಅಶಕ್ತ ವರ್ಗದವರಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಸೇವೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತಾ ಬಂದಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಲಂಬಾಣಿ, ಗೊಲ್ಲ, ಗೌರಿ, ಸಿದ್ದಿ ಮತ್ತು ಟಿಬೇಟ್ ಸಮುದಾಯಗಳನ್ನು ತಲುಪಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕಳೆದ ಮೂರು ದಶಕಗಳಿಂದ ದಿನಕ್ಕೆ ಸರಾಸರಿ 150 ರೋಗಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುವ ಸಿ| ಡಾ| ಗ್ಲ್ಯಾಡಿಸ್, ವಾರಕ್ಕೆ 80 ರಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರಸೂತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ತಾವು ಸೇವೆ ನೀಡಿದಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಆರೋಗ್ಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜಾಗ್ರತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸುವ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಹಮ್ಮಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಲ್ಲದೇ, ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಣ್ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ದಾದಿ ತರಬೇತಿ ನೀಡಿ, ಇಂದು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಹಳ್ಳಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 300ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಮಹಿಳೆಯರು ಪ್ರಸೂತಿ ದಾದಿಯರಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದರ ಹೊರತಾಗಿ ಸುಮಾರು 200ಕ್ಕೂ ಮಿಕ್ಕಿ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಿಗೆ ಸಮುದಾಯ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಕಾರ್ಯಕರ್ತರನ್ನಾಗಿ ತರಬೇತು ಮಾಡಿ, ಜೀವನೋಪಾಯವನ್ನು ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸಿ| ಡಾ| ಗ್ಲ್ಯಾಡಿಸ್ ಇವರು ಹಿಂದುಳಿದ ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡಿದ ನಿಸ್ವಾರ್ಥ ವೃತ್ತಿಪರ ಸೇವೆಯನ್ನು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಅಹಿಂದ ಸಂಘಟನೆಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರತ್ನ, ವೈದ್ಯರ ದಿನದ ಸಿ.ವಿ. ರಾಮನ್ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ರೈತ ಸಂಘಟನೆ ವತಿಯಿಂದ ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವಾ ರತ್ನ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಿ ಗೌರವಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ರಾಮನಗರ ಸೊಲ್ಲೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿ| ಡಾ| ಗ್ಲ್ಯಾಡಿಸ್ ಮಿನೇಜಸ್ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

Professional of the year: Sr. Dr. Gladys Menezes, Belman

Gynachologist by profession Rev Sr. Dr. Gladys Menezes originally hails from Belman, presently serving in Snehalaya Hospital, Solur, Ramnagar. She completed her MBBS and DGO from reputed St ​John’s Medical College and Hospital, Bangalore​,​ and since then serving the ​underprivileged and marginal sections of society in remote rural villages of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. She has a record of 30 years of unflinching service in rural areas. She served backward tribals of Lambanis, golla, Gowrie, Tibetans,​ and ​Siddhis. On an average basis​,​ she treats 150 patients a day and conducts  80 deliveries a week.

Apart from serving in rural areas she spread awareness among rural women about their health and trained around 300 women as ​dadi who can work as village birth attendants.  She has trained more than 200 community health workers who are earning a decent livelihood now ​in the profession. Considering her yeoman service​,​ especially in the rural areas as a specialist, Ahind ​Association honored her with Karnataka Ratna and District Farmers Association honored her with Samaja Seva Rathna. She has been bestowed with the ​​C V Raman award on Doctors Day.
